Discovering T Tauri Candidates Using The INT Photometric H-Alpha Survey (IPHAS)

Barentsen et al (2011) have recently shown to use the images produced by the Isaac Newton Telescope  Photometric H-Alpha Survey to identify new T Tauri stars and to estimate their accretion rates. Specifically, they studied a region of size 7 degrees-squared  towards the HII region IC1396 in Cepheus OB2, and identified 158 pre-main sequence candidates with masses between 0.2 and 2.0 M⊙ and accretion rates between 10(−9.2) and 10(−7.0) M⊙yr−1.

As a starting point for their analysis, they used Montage to create mosaics of the 120 IPHAS fields in the direction of IC1396, shown below:
